A Life in Lending
Saba Khaliq
I’ll do something about my life.
I’ll let the world walk all over me,
Invite the dirty trouble of all microbes
All the way inside my black lungs,
Make light conversation
With these marauders of luck snuggling beside me.
I’ll feed my money to corpses and machines,
Walk the boggy crimson way home,
Lie many a summer nights with
My neighbour’s ghost outside the mart
With nauseous neon sale signs.
I’ve realized now, someone told me in all confidence
The way with life is bound
In letting, lending my one poor dark body
To the blistering roads and raiders
Mocking the excess of life in me.
