Each Day I Wake Up and I Search for God

Erik Rasmussen

Each day I wake up and I search for god

Most days he’s lost

Behind the wasted time

Minutes

Hours

Or the veil of tears

Clouding my vision

Mindless fog

But occasionally

Rarely

I find him

If only for a moment

In the beams of light radiating through my bedroom window

In the gentle laugh shared with a stranger

In the trees

In water

Inconsequence

His word lies in stars

Not in pages or plaster or preachers

But in the particles, the space dust from which all is born

And to which all will return

Each day I wake up and I search for god

For the diamond to which we give its meaning

And from which our meaning is given
