Partir (Depart)
Ana Llanos Mabesoy
De-part
When I left Maní city
my eyes became a pond of pearls
fell from the heights
and bathed
the mountains rivers and lakes
that once witnessed my existence
The clouds shadowed the faces of my grandparents
and blurred in the courtyard of my house
the fairies that tended the garden
When I left Maní city
the memories that as a child
I once sent on paper boats
were consigned to oblivion
Everything I needed to erase
melted like cotton candy
in warm and salty waters
When I left Maní city
I had to forget my eternal cravenness
break with my stillness
gather the strength that lay
listless
from the sighs engendered by pain
