15.1 Securing and Preparing Food

Providing ourselves with regular opportunities to eat can help ensure we are eating adequately and mindfully. These opportunities can be influenced by food insecurity, planning and shopping habits, and meal preparation practices.

Securing and Preparing Food Learning Objectives

  • Define food security and food insecurity;
  • Identify cost-effective strategies for securing adequate food;
  • Identify benefits of and strategies for food-related planning and preparation; and
  • Recognize ways individuals can honor their personal food preferences, traditions, and values.
