3 Library databases help you find scholarly information
Now that you’ve discovered how scholars create information and share it, let’s identify how scholars, students, and researchers find it all. Usually we use library databases, which are large storage sites for scholarly publications, magazine articles, and much more.
Why is this important?
You will need to perform research as a scholar. A large part of this research is finding information created by other scholars.

- Material (typically a book, document, or article) used to provide evidence in research.
scholarly or academic publication
- A peer-reviewed article or report published in an academic journal.
library database
- A special website to find information across a wide range of sources including scholarly articles, magazine articles, news sources, and much more.
general database
- A type of database used to find academic publications on topics across academic disciplines. Examples include Academic Search Premier and Google Scholar.
subject-specific database
- A database that contains sources only relating to a certain area or areas of study. Examples include PubMed and APA PsycINFO.
