Medicine Case Study

A middle-aged man comes into your clinic for new onset leg pain. When looking at his chart, you notice that his cholesterol levels were recently tested and are high. When you mention this to the patient, he says that he knows his cholesterol is high, but not sure what to do. He prefers to avoid “medications” and has tried to control his cholesterol with lifestyle changes, but his levels have not changed much in the past several years. He mentions that his friend buys red yeast rice (RYR) products off the internet for his high cholesterol and wants to know if RYR might work for him too.
