Welcome to Anatomy II! This Dissection Lab Guide is meant to help you navigate through your second semester of anatomy, which covers the anatomy of ungulates (hoofed animals). This guide gives you step-by-step instructions to follow as you perform your dissection of pony and calf cadavers during in-person anatomy lab sessions. It is adapted from a previous version of a ‘homemade’ anatomy guide written by Professor Emeritus, Dr. Victor Cox, with revision contributions from Drs. Christina Clarkson and Thomas Fletcher.

This course takes a regional approach to each dissection, hence, each chapter of this guide will focus on one region of the body, within which you will dissect the relevant muscles, arteries, veins, nerves, and other associated structures and tissues before moving on to the next region. This lab guide also includes notes about specific differences that will be seen in the pony versus the calf.

Important formatting and terminology notes for utilizing this guide:

  • All terms in bold font that are not italicized are fair game for quizzes and exams.
  • Italicized items are for your information only and terms indicated thereinĀ are not testable information.
